Umrah Guide Regarding Things You Should Know If You Are Planning For Umrah

Enter into state of Ihram at the airport or at your residence before boarding the airplane. It is allowed and approved to do so before meeqat but not after that point. This is advisable because the crew members do not announce when meeqat comes. You may enter into Ihram inside the airplane when it is flying high up in the sky and it is not suitable to change your garments and put on Ihram sheets and there is no proper place to offer namaz (prayers). By the way, these instructions and advices are for independent pilgrims. If a person is travelling with a group, follow all the instructions given by the group leader. The main thing is that you must be in the state of Ihram at or before Meeqat.

If a person want to visit Madinah before Umrah
Some people will like to visit Madina city first before going to Makkah for Umrah. This is also suitable than the first choice because a person is not involved with Ihram or any kind of restrictions that go with it. Ihram is not necessary for the visitation of the Masjid-e-Nabwi (Prophet (PBUH)'s mosque) or His sacred tomb. Then, when pilgrim is ready for Umrah, firstly go to Meeqat station, enter into state of Ihram and proceed to Makkah.

1. Performing Umrah alone or along with Hajj?
Umrah is performed alone or as part of Hajj Hajj al- Tamatt'u or al-Qiran. For those pilgrims who do not take sacrificial animals or qurbani animals with them, Hajj al-Tamatt'u is preferable that is performed by almost all the people who travel to Makkah from outside. In Hajj al-Tamatt'u, first a pilgrim performs Umrah, then come out from the state of Ihram and when the time of Hajj comes, pilgrim enter into state of Ihram again in Makkah.

Procedure to Enter into Ihram
So, the Ihram a person is entering into now is for Umrah only.

Preparation:
You must have your hair cut (if needed), removed unnecessary body hair, moustache trimmed and nails pared. Then take a bath with the niyyat (intention) of Ihram.

Ihram:
After prepration, put on two seamless clothing of Ihram preferably of white colour.

Two Nafils:
If it is not time of zawaal, offer two rakahs of nafil namaz (prayers) by covering your head.

Intention or Niyyat:
Now make the intention or niyyat to perform Umrah.

Talbiyah:
After the niyyat (intention), recite Talbiyah. Pronouncing Talbiyah once is essential (Fard) and pronouncing it more than once is also a Sunnah. As Talbiyah is pronounced, a person is entered into the state of Ihram and all the obligations or compulsions of Ihram begin which are the same in Hajj or Umrah. Pilgrim should keep on reciting Talbiyah in a loud voice and it must be pronounced thrice each time. Females have to recite Talbiyah in subdued voice.
